The National Make-A-Wish Foundation’s mission statement is; “Together, we create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses.” The non-profit has a tight community of wish kids, volunteers, donors, medical professionals, and more that work together to grant such powerful wishes.

Swishes for Wishes to help Grant Wishes
The Chi Omega fraternity has been in a national alliance with the Make-A-Wish Foundation since 2002. The UNC-Chapel Hill chapter of Chi Omega put on its very first annual “Swishes for Wishes” five versus five basketball tournament to raise funds for Make-A-Wish of Eastern North Carolina. Teams of five must pay an entry fee which all gets donated to the organization. A number of businesses in the Chapel Hill and Durham area donated a variety of prizes for the raffle, including things like free workout classes, gift cards, and even a free night stay at the beloved Carolina Inn. All the money made from raffle ticket sales was also donated to the cause.
Ramya, a local wish kid to the triangle area, finally had the magical moment of receiving her wish to go to Disney! Local representatives from the Eastern North Carolina chapter of Make-A-Wish reached out to the girls of Chi Omega at both UNC-CH and NCSU to create a surprise sendoff at the RDU airport for Ramya. When Ramya arrived with her family, she was surprised by a group of Chi O’s dressed in blue Make-A-Wish shirts and Mickey Mouse ears holding posters letting her know that she was going to Disney! All of the fundraising efforts, volunteers, donors, and more are what allow children like Ramya to have their wishes come true.
